Outreach Organizations Communion Sunday Community FoodBank One Great Hour of Sharing NEW! Holy Joe's Cafe Environmental Concerns Outreach Organizations: These are some of the organizations we at Stanley Church support with our time and money. Most have websites you can visit to find out more about that organization:
On the first Sunday of every month, Communion Sunday, a special offering of food for the Interfaith Food Pantry is collected during Worship. Please remember to contribute! What can I contribute? Community FoodBank: One of our partner organizations is the Community FoodBank, in Hillside, NJ. Stanley Church sends volunteers to the FoodBank once a month on Saturday mornings. Call the church office or check the calendar for the date of our next trip. Carpools leave the church parking lot at 8:15 am. Please call the church office at 973-635-7723 to let us know you'll join us. One Great Hour of Sharing: Each year during Lent, Stanley Church and the United Church of Christ unite with Christians in eight other Protestant denominations as well as with Church World Service to collect an offering for One Great Hour of Sharing. We are called to make a difference in the lives of people everywhere, whether it be with those fleeing violence in Sudan, those suffering with AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, those reeling from devastation in Indonesia, those starving in India, or those recovering from a disaster in the United States. Donations to OGHS go to:
This offering is administered through Wider Church Ministries of the United Church of Christ. All gifts to OGHS are tax deductible and 100 percent goes to the designated area of response. Non-designated gifts are also encouraged and they allow OGHS to address future hidden and forgotten emergencies around the world. Holy Joe's Cafe: Stanley Church supports a Coffee House Ministry for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan by making a donation to the UCC Coffee Project. This project sends Equal Exchange Coffee to military chaplains in Baghdad. To learn more about this ministry, click here. Environmental Concerns: 1. Buy a Water Conservation Kit! Water is a gift that is essential for life. Despite a seeming abundance of water in the US, our current habits of water usage are not sustainable. Fresh, drinking water is a scarce resource. The United Nation reports that only 1% of all water on earth is available for human use. While 70% of the world’s surface is covered by water, 97.5% of that is salt water. Of the remaining 2.5% that is freshwater, almost 70% is frozen in ice caps and glaciers. During Coffee Hour on Sunday mornings we encourage you to purchase GreenFaith’s Water Conservation Kit. The kit provides the average household with the opportunity to save over40,000galonsof water per year. Each Water Conservation Kit costs $32.00 (includes shipping cost) and contains the following:
